Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 2026
Introduction
Welcome to AskOut (“we,” “our,” or “us”). AskOut is a social activity
platform: it helps people create and discover plans (such as sports,
coffee meetups, trips, and events), join activities, and talk with other
participants in the context of those plans. We are committed to protecting
your privacy and explaining—in plain language—how we handle personal
information when you use our mobile app and related services (together,
the “Services”).
What AskOut is not. AskOut is not designed or marketed as
a service for pairing people for private one-to-one introductions outside
of shared activities. Interactions on AskOut are meant to support
real-world participation in plans and plan-based group conversation. The
product is not designed to prioritize personal introductions outside of
those shared activities.
This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, why we use it, who may
see it, how we keep the community safer, and what choices and rights you
have. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the
Services.
Who We Are
The data controller responsible for your personal data in connection with
AskOut is the entity operating AskOut as identified in the app or on our
website. For privacy questions, contact us at
hello@askout.me.

Why We Use Your Information (Purposes)
We use personal information to:
- Create and maintain accounts and profiles
- Authenticate you, protect accounts, and reduce fraud and abuse
- Show relevant plans and help you discover activities nearby or based on
your preferences
- Enable joining plans, coordinating details, and participant lists
where the product provides them
- Deliver plan-based messaging and notifications you expect (for example,
updates about plans you joined)
- Show approximate distances or areas when location features are enabled
- Operate safety systems, investigate reports, and enforce our rules
- Measure how the Services perform, fix bugs, and develop features
- Meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
- Communicate with you about the Services, including policy or safety
notices when appropriate
Where European data protection law applies, we rely on legal bases such
as: performing our contract with you (providing the Services); our
legitimate interests (for example, securing the platform, improving the
product, and preventing abuse, balanced against your rights); compliance
with legal duties; and consent where we ask for it (for example, certain
optional permissions or marketing, if offered). You may withdraw consent
where processing is consent-based, without affecting processing that was
lawful before withdrawal.
How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only as
described below.
-
With other participants: Your profile and content may
be visible according to how the product works—for example, to people who
can see a plan you created or joined, or to members of a plan chat. Do
not share sensitive information in public plan fields or with people you
do not trust.
-
With service providers: We use vendors for hosting,
messaging delivery, analytics, customer support tools, and similar
functions. They process data on our instructions and under contractual
protections.
-
For safety and integrity: We may disclose information if
we believe it is necessary to detect, prevent, or respond to abuse,
fraud, illegal activity, or serious harm—or to protect the rights,
safety, and security of users, AskOut, or the public.
-
Legal and compliance: We may disclose information to
comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental requests,
where permitted.
-
Business changes: If we are involved in a merger,
acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be
transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate
safeguards.
-
With your direction: When you ask us to share something
or connect a third-party integration, we share as needed to fulfill
your request.
Location Data
If you allow location access, we may collect precise or approximate
location to:
- Show plans and activities relevant to an area you care about
- Help participants coordinate real-world meetups
- Compute distances or neighborhood context where the app displays them
- Improve discovery and safety features tied to place
You can control location through your device settings. Other users
typically see what the product is designed to show (for example, an area
label or a distance estimate)—not necessarily your exact live coordinates,
unless you post them in content yourself.
Messaging and Communication
AskOut communication features are for plan-related conversation.
- Messages may be stored so participants can see conversation history
- Recipients can see content you send in line with the feature (for
example, others in the same plan thread)
- We may use automated and human review in line with our safety efforts
and legal duties
- Media you send may be stored and displayed to recipients as part of
the thread
Safety, Moderation, and Community Standards
We want AskOut to stay welcoming and activity-focused. You must follow our
community guidelines and any in-app rules. Without limiting other
remedies, we may warn, restrict, remove content, suspend, or terminate
accounts for behavior that harms others or breaks our policies.
-
Prohibited behavior (examples): harassment, hate,
threats, illegal activity, spam, deception, impersonation, attempts to
exploit or harm minors, or sharing others’ private information without
permission
-
Content expectations: keep plan posts and chats relevant
to organizing and enjoying activities; avoid graphic, exploitative, or
abusive material
-
Reporting: use in-app reporting and blocking tools when
something violates our rules or makes you uncomfortable. You can also
email hello@askout.me for
safety-related concerns
-
Enforcement: we may investigate reports, remove
content, limit features, or cooperate with authorities when required
Your Content and Responsibility
You are responsible for the content you upload and share—including photos,
text, and files—and for ensuring you have the rights to post it. Do not
upload content you do not have permission to use. You understand that
other participants may see what you post according to how the Services
work.
We may remove content or accounts that violate our terms, guidelines, or
applicable law. We do not guarantee storage, display, or distribution of any
user content.
Data Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal
information, including encryption in transit where appropriate, access
controls, vendor reviews, and monitoring for abuse. No online service can
guarantee perfect security; please use a strong device passcode and
protect your account credentials.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply
with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Some records may
remain for a period after account deletion where necessary for safety,
fraud prevention, or legal reasons. When retention ends, we delete or
anonymize data where feasible.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws
(including, for individuals in the European Economic Area, the UK, and
similar regions, rights under the GDPR and local equivalents). These may
include:
-
Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold
about you
-
Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete data
-
Deletion: ask us to delete certain data, subject to
legal exceptions
-
Restriction or objection: ask us to limit processing
or object to certain processing based on legitimate interests
-
Portability: receive certain data in a structured,
commonly used format where applicable
-
Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent
-
Lodge a complaint: contact your local data protection
authority if you believe our processing violates applicable law
You can manage many choices directly in the app (profile edits,
permissions, notifications). To exercise other rights, email
hello@askout.me. We may need to
verify your request and may decline requests that are unlawful, excessive,
or risk others’ rights.
Children
AskOut is not intended for children under the age required by applicable
law (often 13, or higher where local rules say so). We do not knowingly
collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, please
contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
International Transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than where you
live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard
contractual clauses approved by regulators) for transfers of personal
data from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the
updated version here and change the “Last Updated” date. If changes are
material, we will provide additional notice as required by law or as we
otherwise consider appropriate (for example, an in-app notice).
